Excerpt: The Asian Cultural Council (ACC) (traditional Chinese: simplified Chinese: pinyin: Y zh?u W nhu Xi hu- Cantonese Yale: Aj?u M hnfa Hipw i- Japanese: Korean: ) is an American non-profit organization dedicated to providing support to Asian-American cultural exchange in the areas of visual and performing arts. The Asian Cultural Council was established in 1980 to carry forward the mission of the Asian Cultural Program of the JDR 3rd Fund, which was created by John D.

Rockefeller 3rd in 1963. The Asian Cultural Council now has representation in New York, Hong Kong, Manila, Taipei and Tokyo. As of 2010, the Council and the JDR 3rd Fund before it have provided grant assistance to nearly 6,000 Asians and American artists, scholars, and specialists in the arts. It currently makes approximately 160 grants a year, and its annual budget is met by a combination of endowment income and contributions from foundations, corporations, and individual donors. The Councils main objective is to provide support for cultural exchange between Asia and the United States, and also among different regions within Asia.

Its geographic purview includes an extensive area of Asia, ranging from Afghanistan to Japan and Indonesia. The ACC does this by providing grants to Asian applicants in areas of research, stud...
